Fun
for the Family
If
you can tear yourselves away from one of the nearby
beaches, castles or gardens you may wish to visit the
following (especially on a wet day):
Oakwood www.oakwood-leisure.com
Around 45 minutes away is Oakwood, Wales' largest theme
park. It has all the rides you would expect including
Megaphobia - the 900 m roller coaster, 'Vertigo', 'Bounce',
the 'Voodoo Mansion', and 'Snake River falls' for the
thrill-seeker, Go-karts, boating lake, bob sleigh etc
for the family and kiddie coaster, Ferris Wheel, Carousel
etc for the smaller members of the family. Oakwood also
has special events such as firework displays and after
dark specials during the holiday season.
Folly
Farm www.folly-farm.co.uk
A firm favourite with our son Alfie, Folly Farm (approx
40 mins) is excellent value for money whether the weather
is good or bad. There are masses of animals, tractor
rides, go carts, indoor and outdoor adventure playgrounds,
an old fashioned fun fair with proper carousel, etc.
There are special shows introducing the animals, circus
workshops and much more. You can take your own picnic
or eat at the restaurants or burger bars there.
Heatherton www.heatherton.co.uk
The emphasis is on country sports at this park (approx
40 mins away) which is 2 miles outside Tenby. It is
set in 200 acres and includes go-karting, 18 hole pitch
and putt, laser clay pigeon shooting, indoor adventure
playground, archery, bumper boat racing lake, air pistol
range, face painting and so on. This park definitely
holds something for all members of the family.
National
Showcaves Centre for Wales at Dan-yr-Ogof www.showcaves.co.uk
There are three amazing caves to be discovered, all
fantastically lit to give the visitor a real sense of
history and mystery. There is also a dinosaur park,
Shire horse centre and Victorian Farm to explore. Another
great day out for all ages. Approx 45 mins away.
The
Gwili Steam Railway www.gwili-railway.co.uk
Just outside Carmarthen is Gwili Railway, a full size
steam railway (approx 20 mins). It runs through the
beautiful Gwili Valley and allows passengers off to
picnic by the river or walk in the woods. There are
special events held on the railway throughout the year
including a day out with Thomas the Tank Engine, Teddy
Bear's Picnic days and music nights in summer.
Also
nearby
Pembertons Chocolate Farm (www.welshchocolatefarm.com),
Merlin Museum, Welsh Gold Centre, Tearaways,
Ballyhoos and many other attractions.
